Gazmend Turdiu – General Secretary


Mr. Gazmend Turdiu has assumed the position of Secretary General in the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs on July 22, 2022.

Mr. Turdiu was admitted to the Foreign Service of the Republic of Albania in June 1992 and since that period he has served in important duties at home and abroad.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tirana, Mr. Turdiu has served as Director of the Directorate Euro-Atlantic Cooperation (1998-2000), Director of the Europe Directorate (2003), Director of
General of Legal and Consular Affairs (2008-2009), General Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2009-2013).

In the period from June 2001 to September 2002, Mr. Turdiu served as General Director for Coordination of Foreign Aid in the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Trade.
Abroad, Mr. Turdiu has served as ambassador of the Republic of Albania in Bern, Switzerland (1992-1997), as well as Ambassador of the Republic of Albania in Berlin, Federal Republic of Germany (2003-2008).

During his career, Mr. Turdiu has been a member of the Agency’s Board of Governors International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) (2009), President of the 10th Meeting of States
Party to the Ottawa Convention (2010-2011) and member of the Foundation Council of the Center for Geneva for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) (2010 to 2013).

In the period from September 2013 to August 2019, Mr. Turdiu served as Deputy Secretary of General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) in Sarajevo.

After returning from his duties as Deputy General Secretary in the RCC, Gazmend Turdiu worked as director of the Regional Directorate and Neighboring Countries (January 2020 – March 2021), while from March From 2021 to July 2022, he worked as director of the Directorate of the Security Council at the MEPJ.

Mr. Turdiuwas born on April 6, 1959. He knows English and Italian languages and is graduated in Civil Engineering from the University of Tirana in 1990.

Mr. Turdiu is married and has two children.
