Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Agron Tare, welcomed today in a meeting, the Secretary of State (First Deputy Minister) of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Martin Klus, who is paying a visit to Albania.

The meeting focused on Albania’s European Integration process, bilateral cooperation and the situation in the region.

The officials praised the very good level of relations between the two countries and stressed the need to intensify bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, especially in the economic sphere.

An important topic at the meeting was the process of the European Integration of Albania and the presentation of the progress it has made in the framework of reforms, especially justice reform and the measures taken by the Albanian Government to meet the key priorities in the integration process.

The Secretary of State, Klus, reaffirmed the unwavering support of the Slovak Republic for Albania’s membership in the EU, as well as for holding of the First Intergovernmental Conference with the EU as soon as possible.

The officials also discussed the situation in the Western Balkans region, where the Slovak side valued the Albanian constructive role in the region, as a factor of stability and regional cooperation.
