Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

Minister Ditmir Bushati attended the oath-taking ceremony of the new generation of diplomats “Ismail Qemali” which took place at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

In his greeting speech, wishing success to the young diplomats for their duty in the Diplomatic Service, the minister advised young diplomats to be guided by two principles during their ensuing activity: love for the homeland and professional growth.

“It is important that you have the love for your homeland at the core of your job as a diplomat. We live in unsafe times when the flag of nationalism is frequently waved, but love for your homeland must be intertwined with love for your job and multiplied with your practical knowledge. In this way, we will have a better position in our Diplomatic Service” said the minister.

The mentor of the 2017 generation is Prof. Dr. Fatos Tarifa, former Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the United States, who praised the opportunity he was given to lead the generation “Ismail Qemali”. The launch of a career as young diplomats in the Diplomatic Service is what he considered the true vocation of their professional life.

The oath-taking ceremony of new diplomats is already becoming a tradition for Albanian diplomacy. The first generation of new diplomats was that of 2015, called the “Skanderbeg Order” generation, then the generation of 2016, which was called the generation “Rauf Fico”, followed by the 2017 generation that holds the name of Ismail Qemali.

Under the national anthems, the young diplomats swore before the Constitution and the flag. The ceremony was attended by MEFA employees, guests and family members of diplomats who took the Oath.”
