The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, participated in the virtual meeting of female Foreign Ministers organized by the Foreign Minister of Canada, Mélanie Joly, on the violation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Minister Xhaçka praised the Canadian counterpart for the initiative taken, while emphasizing that Albania stands by the Iranian people, who are fighting to protect their most basic human rights.

“As a woman, I feel proud when I see that the driving force behind these protests are Iranian women and girls. We fully support fight of the women of Iran for respect, justice and equality and Albania has loudly condemned in all the international fora the use of the physical violence against women and the denial of human rights and dignity”, she said.

The Albanian chief diplomat stated that Albania’s support for Iran’s women does not stem from Iran’s cyber-attack on Albania, but that our country strongly believes in the citizens’ right to freedom.

” That is why Albania will support any initiative that aims to bring to end such criminal violations of the rights of women and all citizens and will work closely with all our partners in this regard. “, underlined Minister Xhaçka.

The meeting, hosted by Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly, and attended by female Foreign Ministers, discussed ways to address systemic human rights violations, including serious violations of women’s rights, in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
