On 1 January 2020 Albania took over the Chairmanship of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

This was announced by Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj, who said that Albania, after having witnessed to extraordinary benefits in the fields of security and democratic developments through cooperation with the OSCE from the nineties and on, will for an entire year be chairing the Organisation being responsible for security from Vancouver as far as Vladivostok.

‘Albania will commit itself, amongst others, on issues including conflict prevention and resolution, addressing of transnational threats, fight against organised crime and corruption, further pursuing of democratic processes, and affirmation of the human rights and fundamental freedoms,’ Cakaj stated.

He also added that, in its capacity as Chair of the OSCE, Albania will be taking a cooperative and inclusive approach, characterised by responsible and professional conduct.
