Albania attended on the 9 -10th April 2019 the explanatory screening meeting on the EU legislation for Chapter 9 “Financial Services”. This was the scheduled explanatory meeting held with the European Commission as part of the screening process for accession negotiations.

The Albanian delegation in this meeting was headed by Mr. Sokol Dedja, the Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs and comprised by Ms. Violanda Theodhori, Director of Legal Departement, Albanian Financial Supervisory Authority, Albanian Mission to the EU, Bank of Albania, Ministry of Finance and Economy.

This process began following the decision of the EU Council of Ministers in June 2018, which set out the path for the opening of the negotiations with Albania and asked the EU Commission to start the preparatory work for screening of the Albanian legislation vis a vis the EU acquis.

During this meeting, the Albanian delegation acquainted itself with the legal acts and main European Union policies concerning, Banking and Financial Conglomerates, Financial Markets Infrastructure, Securities Markets and Investment services and Insurance.

In the next step Albania will be requested to present the degree of alignment and implementation of its legislation with the acquis as well as its future plans and strategies with regard thereto.
