The High-Level Open Security Council Debate on Ukraine was presided over by Prime Minister Edi Rama as part of Albania’s presidency of the body. The UN member states should be more forthcoming regarding the case of aggression in Ukraine, said Prime Minister Edi Rama, who also noted that the veto power has diminished the Security Council’s authority.

“Albania has decided to stand up for peace, advancement, and growth. Assist Ukraine by speaking up. And it would be a disrespect to this organization’s intelligence if we were unable to clearly identify who was the aggressor and who was the victim. War and peace are very different from one another, the prime minister said.

In reaction to the Russian ambassador’s comments regarding the presence of the Ukrainian president in the room, the Albanian Prime Minister, who additionally serves as the president of the Security Council, said that the topic under discussion enables the Council the chance to hear president Zelenskyy.

” This is not a special operation from the Albanian presidency; this is in accordance with the council’s rules and prior precedents. This lecture from you about breaking rules in this establishment is impressive. You stop the war and Zelenskyy will not take the floor. We will continue with the session”, the prime minister stated.

The president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, joined the other 50 heads of state in the Open Debate on the topic of “Upholding the Purposes and Principles of The UN Charter Through Effective Multilateralism: Protecting the Peace and Safety of Ukraine.
