The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, welcomed in an official meeting the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Helga Maria Schmid.

In the joint press statement, Minister Xhaçka emphasized that:

“The OSCE has been a trusted and important partner for Albania since 1997, by having an important contribution to many reforms in our country. We welcome the contribution of the OSCE in reforming and modernizing Albania even further”.

The war in Ukraine was one of the issues discussed between Minister Xhaçka and Secretary Schmid. Albania supported and financed “The Moscow Mechanism” as an important instrument of accountability and justice for war crimes, while being a voice in the UN Security Council and an active member of the Group of Friends on Accountability in Ukraine.

In her statement, the Secretary General of OSCE, Schmid, commended Albania’s achievements in the field of foreign policy, as well as its role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Schmid said that Albania is an active and trusted member of the OSCE.

Minister Xhaçka conveyed to Secretary Schmid the appreciation for leading the organization in these times of crisis, as well as the contribution she and the OSCE have made to advance gender equality and the “Women, Peace and Security” Agenda.
