Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

The Minister of Public Administration and Local Self Administration, Marija Obradoviq, during today’s plenary session in the Parliament of Serbia has spoken about the proposal of the Communal Assembly of Bujanovac for Minister Gent Cakaj to be declared “Honorary Citizen “of Bujanoc.

“26 councilors have proposed for Minister Gent Cakaj to be declared as “Honorary Citizen” of Bujanovac. They have sent the proposal in 20 November, and they have acted in a legal manner where I as a Minister had to sign the proposal. But I today have signed the decision by which, the proposal of Communal Assembly of Bujanoc that the Albanian Minister, Gent Cakaj, to be declared as an “Honorary Citizen” of Bujanocis is refused – declared Obradoviq.

As a reasoning for the refusal of the proposal of Bujanoc, Obradoviq declared that Cakaj has continuously accused Serbia for crimes against Albanians of Kosovo and that she cannot sign a document for an Albanian Minister which accuses Serbia and because she is aware that Minister Cakaj has helped Albanians to create a coalition for the Parliamentary elections.

“Minister Gent Cakaj has declared that during the war in Kosovo, Serbia is responsible for the murder of thousands Albanians, and the deportation of millions of Albanians and burning of thousands of houses.”- has declared minister Obradoviq as an argument of her refusal.
