Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, in his capacity of the President of the Security Council, chaired the “Armenia – Azerbaijan” meeting in which the latest military escalation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region was discussed.

Minister Hasani welcomed the ceasefire agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan to stop military actions, as he called on both sides to remain committed to this agreement and avoid any further escalation.

“We fully support the efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan to resolve the old issues and achieve a lasting peace. The rights of ethnic Armenians living in Azerbaijan must be respected in full accordance with national and international law. If they are respected and empowered, communities and minorities become an added value for a country’s society and can serve as a bridge for a peaceful and friendly relationship between neighboring countries”, said the Albanian chief diplomat.

Before chairing this meeting, Foreign Minister Hasani held a bilateral meeting with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan, and with the MFA of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.
