The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, participated in the two-day informal meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC), Foreign Ministers, held in Berlin this weekend. The meeting, which precedes the NATO summit in late June in Madrid (Spain), focused on Ukraine, the consequences of Russian aggression on the alliance ‘s security, the membership of Finland and Sweden, and the NATO strategic concept.
Minister Xhaçka underlined the support for the membership of Finland and Sweden, for which Albania is taking steps to soon start the relevant procedures.

Regarding the situation in Ukraine, Minister Xhaçka said that the union is the key to the collective security of the alliance, while it will continue the support that Albania has given to Ukraine, she indicated that our country will be part of the new combat group in Bulgaria.

“We will all do everything we can to give Russia the message of a united alliance,” said the Albanian chief diplomat.

According to her, NATO should pursue an open door policy for other Western Balkan countries, including Kosovo, which shares the same values, as a contributor to the security of Europe.

A day earlier, Minister Xhaçka met with Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, where she underlined that Ukraine deserves a perspective towards the European Union.
