Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in close communication with the Albanian Embassies in Beijing and Ankara, has worked intensively to successfully finalise the departure from Wuhan of the Albanian student Silva Doçi, who remained isolated within the buildings on the university campus in this city, following measures taken on 23 January 2020 for its isolation.

Placing high priority on the Albanian student’s issue, under the difficult conditions where no one could go in or out of Wuhan, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has for several days been in contact with the Turkish party, presenting them with the official request to include the Albanian student in the operation intended for the removal of the Turkish nationals residing in Wuhan.

With communications being well under way, the Turkish party agreed to allow student Silva Doçi to board the Turkish air ambulance.

At the completion of the formal procedures with the Chinese authorities to allow them to leave Wuhan, the plane departed today from China towards the military airport in Ankara.

All the coronavirus tests on the Albanian student Silva Doçi have resulted negative; however, the long air trip, with over 45 other persons evacuated from Wuhan on board, makes her stay in quarantine mandatory. Everyone leaving the Province of Wuhan is required to undergo a 14-day quarantine medical regime before they can move freely.

During this stage of evacuation, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs remained in constant contact with the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, so as to ensure continued quarantine regime for the Albanian student in Turkey.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has followed and will continue to follow up on the entire procedure regarding the Albanian student’s evacuation until she joins her family in Albania.
