Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs is on an official visit to Berlin, in the course of which he was received by his German counterpart Heiko Maas.
Detailed discussions in the course of the meeting revolved around the need to empower the EU enlargement process in the Western Balkans, and the importance of starting accession negotiations with Albania next year.
In a Facebook post, Cakaj wrote that, ‘Albania has the support of Germany for the start of negotiations next year!’
Additionally, both counterparts shared similar views about the continuation of transformation through reforms in Albania, and the fulfilment of the conditions set by the Bundestag for the purpose of Albania embarking on the European journey.
Germany’s support for the institutional and democratic development, and Albania’s European journey remains crucial.
Referring to recent developments in Albania, Cakaj expressed gratitude for Germany’s extraordinary support in coping with the earthquake consequences. On the other hand, Maas further confirmed his willingness to assist Albania with the restoration and reconstruction plan.
During his stay in Berlin, the Head of Albanian diplomacy also attended the opening of the high-level conference Advocating for the Human Rights in the 21st Century convened under the auspices of the German Minister of Foreign Affairs Heiko Mass.
