Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, welcomed in Tirana the Informal Working Group of the UN Security Council, on Documentation and Other Procedural Questions (IWG).

The Albanian chief diplomat emphasized that the world does not have the luxury of affording a Security Council that is unable to carry out his primary task, which is guaranteeing world security and peace.

“It is unfortunate that in many cases the Security Council appears to be dysfunctional.  Sometimes it is paralyzed and becomes powerless, unable to act just when the world needs it most.

I am talking about the unprovoked aggression against Ukraine that is being carried out by a member of the Security Council who, this is indeed a very bitter irony, is abusing its role as the guardian of world peace and security by blocking the Council  for the sake of his illegal expansionist agenda and for the sake of a direct attack on the order based on international rules”, said Minister Xhaçka.

For 2 days, official representatives of the member countries of the Security Council, researchers and representatives from the Security Council Affairs Division (SCAD) will gather in Tirana to share ideas, positions and opinions on the advancement of the Council’s working methods.

Accredited ambassadors in Tirana also participated in the reception organized by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
