Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

In the framework of the high-level Conference on Combating Anti-Semitism in the OSCE Region, which marks the first event of its kind under the OSCE Albanian Chairmanship, the Exhibition “Albania and the Rescue of Jews from Persecution and the Holocaust” was also inaugurated, with the Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj, the official delegations from the participating states in the OSCE, the representatives from the international organisations and civil society, and others, in attendance.

In his welcoming speech, Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj said that this Conference will help confirm our undertakings to commit ourselves without compromise against all the forms of anti-Semitism, our hard work against the hate speech, and ceaseless efforts to reinvigorate democratic societies through quality education.

Likewise, he pointed out that 75 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, anti-Semitism is still present in different ways and hidden forms all over Europe. Therefore, the world leaders need to strongly denounce every act of anti-Semitism and hate crimes.

The Head of Albanian diplomacy Cakaj dwelt on the Albanians’ contribution to the Jews’ rescue during the Second World War, thus referring to the Albanian society’s enduring values, tolerance, and excellent religious coexistence. In conclusion, Cakaj thanked those whose contribution was conductive to the realisation of this Exhibition.
