The acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, welcomed today in a meeting in Tirana, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, Ignazio Cassis.

The two ministers appreciated the bilateral interaction with special emphasis on the good work for the implementation of the cooperation strategy 2018-2021, as a strategy that gives priority to joint work, in terms of democratic governance, economic development, infrastructure and health.

Further, the counterparts discussed the importance of concluding the agreement on social insurance and setting up the joint economic commission.

The acting Minister Cakaj emphasized via a Facebook post that Albania and Switzerland enjoy an excellent cooperation in the field of multilateral diplomacy, especially in the OSCE. Cakaj also said that with Switzerland, Albania has exchanged support for the candidacies of the two countries as non-permanent members of the Security Council. Furthermore, Cakaj and Cassis agreed to deepen technical and institutional cooperation in this regard as well.

“Otherwise, we both expressed the immense joy that on the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries, the cooperation between us is not only extremely good, but also growing.” – said Cakaj.

At the end of the Facebook post, Chief Diplomat Cakaj expressed his gratitude to Switzerland for the unstinting support given to Albania over the years, including the post-earthquake reconstruction process and the management process of COVID-19 pandemic.
