During his official visit to Kosovo, Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj met with the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi.

During the meeting, both interlocutors acknowledged the excellent brotherly relations between Albania and Kosovo. Additionally, they laid emphasis on the materialization of the strategic and comprehensive partnership between Albania and Kosovo as a model to foster regional cooperation.

In the press release at the end of the meeting, President Thaçi acknowledged the work hitherto done by Cakaj, as the head of the Albanian diplomacy, stating that, ‘I believe that, at all the events that the Republic of Albania has been attending internationally, Acting Minister Cakaj has indeed provided further impetus to and greater energy for this spirit, and this affirmation and consolidation of the State of Kosovo all over the world.’

Likewise, he expressed appreciation for the Government of Albania and all the institutions of the Republic of Albania for their unique position regarding the Republic of Kosovo.

On the other hand, Cakaj in his speech pointed out that, ‘We have committed ourselves, to the best of our capacities, to ensure recognition of Kosovo’s cause. We have done our best to ensure greater international subjectivity for Kosovo. At international forums, we have also made sure to be the voice for Kosovo, where Kosovo has not been present, and address all the issues on its agenda.’

Additionally, the Head of Albanian diplomacy expressed willingness to carry on the project of having joint Embassies in joint spaces in the Consulates, carry on the projects on the exchange of the diplomatic staff, and draw up a coordinated political agenda between the countries.
