Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj attended the meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs held on 20 November 2019, in Brussels. The meeting focussed primarily on finalising preparations for the important meeting of the Heads of States and Governments of the NATO Member Countries to take place between 3 and 4 December 2019 in London.

The Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the allied countries addressed issues essential to NATO’s future, including defence budget, and challenges posed by cyber threats and fight against terrorism.

‘On the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Atlantic Alliance and the 10th anniversary of Albania’s membership in NATO, Albania firmly sticks to its commitments as part of the Alliance’s efforts for joint defence and security,’ Cakaj said in his speech.

With reference to the defence spending increase, Minister Cakaj underscored that Albania has taken critical steps to satisfy the commitments made at the Summits of Wales, Warsaw, and Brussels to meet the spending target of 2% by 2024.
