Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

In a Facebook post, the Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, has informed about the progress made in the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Athens and the General Consulate in Thessaloniki, emphasizing that the situation in these two representations has changed deeply for the good of Albanians which live and work in Greece.

As the Chief Diplomat emphasized, there are no more long queues or waiting lists for months to schedule a meeting for passport and ID applications, but the meeting for the application is scheduled in 5 days and the passport and IDs is received within three weeks.

“Besides the aggravated circumstances from COVID-19, this change is made possible because of a range of measures from the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and thanks to 14 hours a day work from our teams in Athens and Thessaloniki, since July.”- said the Acting Minister Cakaj.

Furthermore, Cakaj informed that in Athens and Thessaloniki over 40.000 passports and IDs have been issued since August, approximately 150% more compared with the preceding part of the same year.

“Another important information, given by the Chief Diplomat, for the Albanians living in the islands of Greece, was that for the first time a mobile consular team will embark in Crete and Rhodes, to give the necessary services for all the Albanians living in the islands.

“We are going to continue the unsparing work until we achieve to link the major objectives of the foreign policy with the daily worries of the Albanian citizens.” – Cakaj concluded his post.
