Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

In the course of the joint conference of the political representatives of the Albanians from across the region, Albania’s Role in Promoting the National Interests of the Albanians across the Western Balkan Space, held today in Tirana, particular emphasis was placed on the foreign policy unification between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Albania.

In his speech, Acting Minister Cakaj said that full coordination of the stated goals of the foreign policy of Kosovo and Albania is indispensable for the Albanians, and highly advantageous for the region.

‘Rather than having only one Joint Commission in place, there certainly need be full unification of the foreign policy through cooperation between the two Ministries. The agreement signed in last may May is a great place to start. However, additional measures, to which full effect must be given, must be brought in,’ Cakaj underlined in his speech.

Furthermore, the Head of Albanian diplomacy pointed out that the Albanians’ position in Serbia is still of concern.

‘Presently, they are underrepresented at the central and local institutions, with the Albanians’ removal from the civil status registers being also a most disturbing exercise, which seriously puts their national substance at risk,’ Cakaj stated.

In conclusion, Cakaj affirmed that the Albanians, as a united citizen body, and the political parties, as well-coordinated entities, are both the guarantee for progress as a nation, and the possibility for the developed and Euro-Atlantic Balkans.
