Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

The Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, is conducting a two-day visit in Sofia where a range of important meetings are expected to take place.

Cakaj started this visit meeting with the First Deputy Prime Minister for the Reform in the Justice System and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ekaterina Zaharieva.

The discussions focused in advancing some projects with a strategic importance, from the boosting of economic exchange to the development of the energy interconnections. The two counterparts also emphasized that Albania has made sustainable progress in the integration process in the European Union.

As for bilateral cooperation, the full support of Bulgaria for the Albanian candidacy to have a non-permanent seat in the Security Council of 2022-2023 was expressed.

In the end of the meeting, the Ministers signed the agreement for cooperation in the field of environmental protection and waters.
