Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

Ahead of the meeting of the Council of Ministers in Luxembourg, Acting Minister Cakaj joined the Ministers for Foreign Affairs from the Party of European Socialists from the EU Member States in a working breakfast, where he had the opportunity to once lay out again on Albania’s progress conducive to the launch of negotiations.

This was a good occasion for the decision on the start of accession talks for Albania and North Macedonia to be discussed in a very friendly setting.

While they had the occasion to be debriefed directly from the Acting Minister Cakaj on Albania’s progress instrumental in meeting all the foreseen requirements, all the Ministers present in the working breakfast once again reiterated the support for Albania and North Macedonia concerning this process.

The German Minister for Foreign Affairs, who chaired the meeting, once again confirmed his efforts to reach a consensus in today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers for a clear YES in favour of the start of accession negotiations talks for both countries.

This meeting, and the discussions held there, were considered to be a very good occasion for the participants to reach the required consensus for today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers
