Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj attended a working breakfast in Brussels with all the European Union Foreign Ministers being present.

The meeting revolved largely around the steps to be taken to allow the start of negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia.

In the course of the meeting, the Head of Albanian diplomacy Cakaj highlighted the fact that Albania has fulfilled all the technical requirements for the EU accession negotiations to start, and emphasised the paramount importance of the European perspective to help further pursue the democratisation and stabilisation process for the Western Balkans.

In a Facebook post, Acting Minister Cakaj stated that, ‘Following approval of the new methodology of accession negotiations, a new political dynamic for membership negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia is expected.’
