Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

In the course of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj met the Minister of External Affairs in the Government of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

During this meeting, Cakaj pointed to his counterpart the need to recognize Kosovo’s independence, and the need to support Kosovo’s membership in the INTERPOL.

‘Support for the consolidation of Kosovo’s position internationally constitutes a crucial element in Albania’s foreign policy in the region,’ Cakaj said.

In the course of this meeting, they also underlined the importance of cooperation between the two countries.

‘In this meeting, we agreed amongst others to finalize a number of agreements on social insurance, and promotion and protection of investments and maritime traffic. These agreements will have a significant role to play in further consolidating bilateral relations between Albania and India,’ Cakaj writes in a Facebook post.

Additionally, India confirms to provide support to Albania’s nomination for a non-permanent seat in the Security Council 2022-2023.
