The acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, had a phone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, Arancha González Laya.

In a Facebook post, regarding the phone call, Cakaj said that he talked extensively with his Spanish counterpart about the measures taken in the fight against COVID-19 and the rapid economic recovery.

The ministers also discussed the importance of fulfilling all the obligations prior to the First Intergovernmental Conference between Albania and the European Union.

“Grateful for Spain’s support to open negotiations with Albania for EU membership!” – said Cakaj in his post.

Finally, the interlocutors agreed to conclude the necessary technical talks in order to finalize a series of agreements which will serve to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
