Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs / the Minister of Immigration and Asylum of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn. Today’s meeting in Luxembourg reconfirms the common will of both countries to strengthen and intensify cooperation.

Minister Bushati informed his counterpart of the concrete steps taken in the reforms that the Albanian government has taken in meeting the five priorities for the EU membership, especially with the justice reform which affects the other four priorities, and above all, the life of every Albanian citizen. Albania is grateful to Luxembourg for the support it has given to the European integration process since the moment it received the candidate country status and to continue supporting Albania now through the difficult process of reforms that will enable us to open accession negotiations.

Relations between our two countries are stable and consolidated. Albania and Luxembourg cooperate within international organizations. They also have an interaction as two NATO member countries and exchange views on the security environment in the region as well. Bilaterally, the two counterparts shared the view that we should jointly engage to further intensify relations especially in the economic field, to increase trade exchanges and absorb Luxembourg’s investment in the country.

Minister Bushati praised Luxembourg’s concern for the Balkans region and its positive attitude towards our countries in general, which aspire to advance towards the EU and in particular Albania’s efforts in the process. Both ministers agreed that regional cooperation has improved considerably in recent years, particularly in terms of political dialogue and increased communication between countries in all dimensions. During this meeting, ministers signed an agreement on mutual protection of classified information between the two states.
