Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

In the framework of the analytical examination of the European acquis started with the European Commission, an explanatory meeting on Chapter 6 “Company Law” took place in Brussels, on 21 October 2019 at the European Commission premises.

The Albanian Delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sokol Dedja. The meeting was chaired by the European Commission and attended simultaneously by the delegation from North Macedonia.

This meeting is organized as part of the analytical examination process of the Community legislation  ‘screening’  with the aim of introducing the EU legal framework, mandatory for approximation by the Albanian side. Screening is the first phase in the context of the opening and conducting of EU accession negotiations. For the Albanian side, this preparatory phase, pending the opening of negotiations, began in the fall of 2018.

The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEFA) and the leading institution for this chapter, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, in cooperation with the Inter-Institutional Working Group, in the framework of the agenda of the meeting, were prepared for a tight working agenda on company law and corporate governance, shareholders’rights, etc.

Following this meeting, the Working Group will conclude the full legal analysis to identify whether or not the Albanian legal framework is aligned, what is technically referred to as legal gap analysis.

The whole process is coordinated and directed by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the European Commission, the Mission of Albania to Brussels and the leading institution for Chapter 6.
