The functions and tasks of MEFA

The mission of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs is the drafting and implementation of foreign policies, the technical direction and coordination of the integration process of the Republic of Albania in the European Union, the development and strengthening of economic diplomacy, as well as the protection of the rights of Albanian citizens and Albanian communities abroad.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs exercises its activity in the following areas of state responsibility:

 

a) Drafts, processes, organizes and implements the foreign policy of the Albanian state;

b) Realizes the expression and protection of the interests of the Albanian state and Albanians in international relations with other countries and international organizations;

c) Support the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, the Council of Ministers and the President of the Republic of Albania in defining important positions related to foreign policy;

ç) Protects the rights of Albanian citizens and Albanian communities abroad, as well as organizes, drafts and implements state policy in their interest in cooperation with the responsible ministries;

d) Encourages and helps to develop the communication and interaction of the diaspora and Albanians abroad with the diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Albania, in the countries where they live;

dh) Promotes and helps in the growth and development of the best Albanian values and traditions among compatriots outside the state borders;

e) Promotes the national economic interest in the international arena, undertaking official diplomatic activities focused on increasing exports, attracting foreign investments and participating in the work of international economic organizations;

ë) Coordinates the process of integration of the Republic of Albania into the European Union, through the approximation of legislation and the drafting of integration policies, as well as proposes draft acts related to the process of integration of the Republic of Albania into the European Union.
