Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj, held today a meeting with Dutch parliamentarian delegation headed by Mr. Hayke Veldman, Chair of the Committee on European Affairs and Mr. Anne Mulder, Rapporteur for Albania.

Acting Minister Cakaj briefed the Dutch MPs with the progress of reforms undertaken by the Albanian Government in meeting the five key priorities, adding that European Commission should recognize with objectivity Albania’s achievements and reflect them in the report to be published at the end of this month.

For the Dutch Rapporteur Mulder this visit aims at enhancing dialogue between the two countries and also to get acquainted directly with the actual situation in Albania. Dutch MPs praised Albania’s progress on justice reform as one of the most important mechanisms of enforcing the rule of law. Dutch parliamentarians stressed that Albania’s perspective rests in its integration into the European Union.

In concluding, Minister Cakaj stated that European Union member states should recognize the results achieved by Albania so that the perception of Albania and Albanians by these member states matches the reality on the ground.
