Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj had a meeting in Brussels with the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, in the course of which they discussed Albania’s advance in the integration process, following the European Commission’s recommendation concerning the launch of accession negotiations.

High Representative Mogherini congratulated Acting Minister Cakaj for having again a clear recommendation, given by the Commission and pointed out that this is a deserved acknowledgement, and the result of comprehensive reforms effected by Albania, particularly the tangible results achieved in the justice reform and the fight against corruption and organised crime.

Both of them shared the consideration that Albania is ready, and has accomplished all the tasks required for the launch of negotiations with the EU, and it is necessary that the European Council responds positively, in line with the Commission’s recommendation.
