Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj is in Geneva to attend the Global Refugee Forum

In his speech, Acting Minister Cakaj underlined that Albania remains committed to fully meet its obligations under the Global Compact on Refugees.

Likewise, he pointed out that, in close cooperation with the UNHCR, EU, and other international partners, Albania will work to improve the system for processing asylum claims and improve the refugee integration capacities.

‘It is very important to remember Albania’s exceptional historic contribution towards accommodating refugees fleeing war in Kosovo, which began as a direct result of the Milošević regime’s ethnic cleansing and genocide projects!’ Acting Minister Cakaj stated.

The Head of Albanian diplomacy Cakaj added that, as well as being an example of national solidarity, this historical experience is a model, at an international level, concerning Albania’s relationships with the refugees at one of the most difficult times in history.
