Today, Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj received the President of the European Council Mr. Charles Michel in Tirana.

‘The Commission’s recent progress report on Albania and approval of the new methodology of accession negotiations are expected to pave the way for the start of the EU membership talks in the course of this year,’ Cakaj wrote in a Facebook post with reference to the said meeting.

Additionally, Cakaj ensured that intensive work to transform the Commission’s technical assessment into the Council’s political willpower so as to start the EU membership process, is under way.

In conclusion, the head of the Albanian diplomacy Cakaj expressed particular appreciation for the support for the Commission’s initiative to convene in Brussels the donors’ conference on the restoration in Albania in the aftermath of the November earthquake. ​
