In a Facebook post, Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj gave his opinion about the European Commission’s decision on the approval of the new methodology for accession to the EU.

‘We welcome the new methodology proposed by the European Union for continuing the EU enlargement process in the Western Balkans. Albania is willing to carry on the important reforms and the radical transformation in compliance with the principles underlying the new methodology, and is expecting that accession negotiations start within 2020,’ the Head of Albanian diplomacy Cakaj writes.

According to Cakaj, greater reliability and predictability, and greater political support and dynamic development are clearly required for the purpose of the EU enlargement process.

‘The new European Commission’s platform is also a long-term geo-strategic investment for the stability, development, and democratisation across the Western Balkans overall,’ he ends his post.
