Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj announced in a Facebook post that, while in Prague, together with the Visegrád countries Foreign Ministers and the Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Mr. Várhelyi, among other things, they also talked about the importance of launching negotiations with Albania during the current year.

‘Introduction of the new methodology of accession negotiations has already rendered the process of accession negotiations more credible, more foreseeable, and more dynamic,’ Cakaj pointed out in the post.

Additionally, Acting Minister Cakaj added that all the participants in the Visegrád countries (V4) and Western Balkans Foreign Ministers’ meeting shared the view that such approach must cause the Member States to go ahead with the start of the accession negotiations for Albania.

Moreover, due to come out in a few days, the European Commission’s Report on Albania is expected to indicate once again that all the required conditions for the EU accession talks to start have been fulfilled.

‘Based on this, we hope that the Member States will make a positive decision on launching negotiations for Albania considering its major achievements,’ Cakaj ends his post.
