Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

The acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, via a Facebook post, welcomed the taking over of the Presidency of the Council of the EU by Germany.

“While the historic decision to open EU membership negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia was reached under the Croatian Presidency, with the German Presidency we will work intensively and closely to hold the First Intergovernmental Conference,” emphasized Cakaj in a statement.

The Chief Diplomat Cakaj also outlined that Germany’s support has been vital to the European Union’s enlargement policies in the Western Balkans. On this issue, Cakaj expressed confidence that the German Presidency of the Council will work closely to strengthen regional cooperation and fulfill all the necessary commitments about the further progress in the EU membership process.

“It is, of course, worth noting that visa liberalization with the Republic of Kosovo is of fundamental importance, not only for its citizens, but also for the credibility of the European Union in the region,” Cakaj concluded his Facebook post.
