The Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, participated at the Counter Terrorism Conference organized by the Albanian OSCE Chairmanship.

Chief Diplomat Cakaj emphasized three main points via a Facebook post, regarding to the participation in the conference.

Firstly, Cakaj said that focusing on the causes that enable the rise of violent extremism is of paramount importance. According to the Acting Minister Cakaj, although the work of security institutions remains irreplaceable, joint action is needed now to change the economic and social causes that enable the emergence of terrorism and violent extremism.

Secondly, the Chief Diplomat underlined that strengthening cooperation between public institutions, media and various technological enterprises continues to be essential to prevent the spreading of extremist narratives.

“Furthermore, our co-operation carries with it an inalienable value in disclosing the information needed to prevent possible terrorist attacks.” – said Cakaj in his Facebook post.

Thirdly, the Acting Minister Cakaj stressed that cooperation and international solidarity are a basic precondition for a successful fight against terrorism.

“While we have done fruitful work together, the OSCE needs to strengthen its commitment to the prevention and dismantling of terrorism and violent extremism.” – Cakaj concluded.
