Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

The acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, announced via a Facebook post that at today’s virtual meeting of the Foreign Ministers in the framework of the Berlin Process, he asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, to recognize the Republic of Kosovo.

“You cannot have stable and long-term regional cooperation without inclusive access, equal treatment and mutual recognition. In this sense, the recognition of Kosovo is a good step forward, not only in the economic process and inter-ethnicity reconciliation in the Western Balkans, but also for capacity building of the region for faster membership in the European Union.” – said Cakaj in his Facebook post.

In addition, Cakaj stressed the need for visa liberalization for the Republic of Kosovo as soon as possible, taking into account the fulfillment of all necessary technical conditions.

“All delays in this process will undermine the credibility of the European Union’s decision-making capabilities in the Western Balkans.” – concluded Chief Diplomat Cakaj.
