The selection procedure for the team of diplomats and experts that will represent Albania in the Security Council for the period 2022-2023 has already started. The team will include diplomats and foreign experts who have applied for specific positions through the platform on the official website of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

Minister Olta Xhaçka held a meeting with diplomats who have applied to be part of the Albanian representative team in the UN Security Council for the period 2022-2023. She emphasized that this mandate is a very good opportunity for Albania to get the admiration and the respect of the whole world for their competent and consistent performance.

“We will have the opportunity to become the spokesperson not only for our Albanian interests but also for the interests of the region, for our allies and partners. We have the opportunity to do all this and much more, depending on the capabilities and consistencies of the team that will represent us. The team will be the face of Albania. It will be the team that will sit in the world’s highest level forum, in front of distinguished diplomats from all over the world to advance the agenda set by Albania’s priorities for the Forum. The team, with our support from our Foreign Ministry, will face the challenges of turning this great opportunity for success of the country and for leaving an admirable contribution and reference on the history of the UN. Such an expected positive contribution would make Albania gain the admiration and the respect of the whole world with a dignified and professional representation”, said the Minister in her speech.

After the meeting with diplomats, Minister Xhaçka and the representatives of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs will hold an online meeting with experts that have applied also outside of the institutional diplomatic system thereby showing a keen interest in being part of the process.

This week will be crucial for the selection of the Albanian representative team in the Security Council for the period 2022-2023. Diplomats and/or experts selected in the qualifying phase by the Special Commission at the MEFA will undergo thorough individual interviews for the profiles they are interested in, in order to thus finalize the team that will formally sit and perform appropriately at the table of the Security Council on 1 January 2022.
