The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Olta Xhaçka, participated in the Sixth Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean, held in Barcelona, on November 29, 2021. The meeting organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, was co-chaired by the High Representative of the EC for Politics Outside, Joseph Borrell.

Minister Xhaçka expressed that the Union for the Mediterranean remains a forum for political dialogue, a platform for cooperation projects in many fields.

“The EU agenda for the Mediterranean is a positive signal and a reason to hope for more EU engagement in the Mediterranean area for more support for development, stability and progress. The Mediterranean has an amazing potential for more cooperation and development”, emphasized Minister Xhaçka.

The Minister assured of the focus that Albania will give to the Mediterranean region during Albania’s mandate in the UN Security Council.

“The Mediterranean area has tremendous potential in the development of tourism, blue economy, clean energy, technology which can be activated through economic cooperation and promoting education and the flow of information and knowledge in general, and of course innovation, especially for the youth, considering that the Mediterranean has one of the youngest populations in the world. Albania will do its best to promote stability and security in the Mediterranean during its mandate in the UN Security Council,” the Minister said in her speech.

The 6th Regional Forum of the Mediterranean Union was held on Mediterranean Day, celebrated for the first time since the decision of the 42 UFM member countries.
