Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, participated in the special session of the UN General Assembly on Ukraine.

Minister Xhaçka stressed that the Russian aggression in Ukraine has had significant worldwide repercussions, adding that these repercussions would have been considerably greater if Russia had been permitted to win this fight.

“Albania fully supports the resolution “UN Charter principles underlying a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine”. This is the reason why we believe that this Assembly should vote in support of this resolution. We oppose the hostile amendments put forward by Belarus. They represent no effort to contribute to peace but an attempt to shield the aggressor. Albania requests a recorded vote for the two amendments proposed by Belarus”, said the Albanian chief diplomat.

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched its aggression against Ukraine. Thousands of people have lost their lives as a result of this war, which has resulted in the growth of crises in the fields of food security, energy and global order.

The resolution proposed in the UN General Assembly is based on the principles of guaranteeing the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, which extend to its territorial waters.
