“Safe food today, for a healthy tomorrow” is the theme of this year on the day dedicated to “World Food Safety Day”. On World Food Safety Day, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Milva Ekonomi, visited the Institute of Food and Veterinary Safety. During the visit, she held a conversation with the heads of the institutions responsible for food safety, Armand Reveli, director of the Institute of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine (ISUV) and under the director Jonida Boci, the director of the National Food Authority (AKU), Bledar Skënderi, and the director of the National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority AKVMB, Tana Kika.

In her speech, the Minister of Economy evaluated the work done in the laboratories of the Institute of Food Safety, which are certified according to the standards of the European Union.
“All types of analyzes that are carried out here at ISUV show that we have an increased attention for every product, which is consumed domestically or exported”, said the Minister of Agriculture Milva Ekonomi.
The Minister of Economy appreciated the cooperation between the institutions of the line, ISUV-AKU-AVMB, which are close to the consumer at every moment.

She also emphasized the need to cooperate with scientific research institutions in order to align with European legislation.

“The more the efforts of these three institutions increase to align with the European Union, the more the need for specialized staff increases. These institutions have cooperation with the Agricultural University of Tirana, to prepare the reference documents and to do the best scientific research in the country”, said the Minister of Economy.

In the Institute of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine, in the Department of Animal Health, all National Programs, surveillances, strategies are implemented which serve to recognize the epidemiological situation in the country and take measures by the AKVMB to prevent the outbreak of diseases, reduce the incidence and the prevalence of diseases that have an impact on public health.

These measures serve to ensure and increase the health and well-being of farm animals.
While in the Department of Plant Protection and Health, monitoring plans and a plan based on risk assessment are implemented for the control of pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables, so that the domestic and foreign markets contain the safest products on the market.

Also, at ISUV, the control of all food products and by-products of animal and aquatic origin is carried out within the framework of official controls for domestic consumption and official controls for export, which are directly related to the increase in food safety.

ISUV laboratories as efference laboratories are accredited as a condition for reliability in growth for food safety.
World Food Safety Day (WFSD) on 7 June 2021 aims to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage food-borne hazards, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture , market access, tourism and sustainable development.
